Offshore wind in Australia continues to build momentum with today鈥檚 announcement by Chris Bowen that the Bass Strait region off Northern Tasmania will open for consultation in October and the Indian Ocean region off Perth/Bunbury, WA in November.

The Minister for Climate Change and Energy shared the news at the APAC Offshore Wind and Green Hydrogen Summit.

This follows the recent announcement that the has opened for public consultation to seek feedback regarding the suitability of the location for offshore wind development.

鈥淎ustralia is moving in the right direction to rapidly establish the best locations for offshore wind projects. Certainty around locations is vital for the sustainability of this industry 鈥� not only for environmental considerations and project investment but also to support the necessary development of supporting infrastructure to bring these renewable energy sources online.

鈥淲e now have two : one off Gippsland in Victoria and another off the Hunter-Central Coast in New South Wales. Developers are now in the process of seeking feasibility licences to develop in these zones.
